Marine Biotoxin Testing

Neogen provide UKAS* accredited independent contract laboratory testing services for Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning ASP (Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning), DSP (Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning) and PSP (Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning). Laboratory testing is carried out using quantitative LCMS and HPLC analysis to identify shellfish toxins in a wide range of shellfish including common mussels, king scallops and pacific oysters. Testing performed is equivalent to the Official Control methods within the UK & Ireland.

Norovirus Testing

Following successful validation of quantitative analysis, Neogen’s Norovirus Testing Service is now UKAS** accredited. This allows our contract laboratory service to report in both Ct values and copy numbers, providing customers with the information needed to make an informed decision on their produce. Norovirus testing is performed using RT-PCR.

  • Properties Measured: Genotype I and II
  • Method: RT-PCR

**Detection and quantification of Norovirus Genotype I and II in oyster gut tissue (hepatopancrea) using DNA and RNA Extraction using the Thermo Scientific MagJET Viral DNA and RNA kit followed by Determination using the Qiagen QuantiFast Probe RT-PCR using the Stratgene Mx3005P thermal cycler. Removal of the hepatopancreas as per procedure 5M014.
