Neogen’s rapid test for aflatoxin M1 can screen milk samples at 20 parts per trillion.
Aflatoxin is a toxic and carcinogenic substance produced by certain strains of the moulds Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus. When ruminants consume grain containing aflatoxin, they create a metabolite which is found in their milk, aflatoxin M1. Ingesting excessive amounts of the toxin can cause chronic health and performance problems or death in animals. Aflatoxin has been shown to cause liver damage or cancer, decreased milk and egg production, immune system suppression and interference with reproductive efficiency.
Neogen’s Reveal® screening kits are extremely easy-to-use and interpret test strips that screen samples against set thresholds.
Neogen’s Veratox® kits are quantitative tests that compare up to 19 samples at a time against test controls. Through the use of a microwell reader, the tests provide accurate sample results in parts per million (ppm) or parts per billion (ppb).
